Compare two names

Choosing between two names is where most naming actually stalls, and it usually happens long after the generator is closed. Type any two names, from this site or anywhere else, and see them measured on the same four properties every name on NameForge carries.

What is being measured, and what is not

Syllables follow one published rule: count each run of vowel letters as one syllable, then subtract one for a silent trailing e when the word has more than one vowel group. It is deliberately simple and approximate at the edges, and it is published in full on the about page and in every corpus entry so anyone can apply it by hand and get the same answer.

The consonant-vowel pattern is the skeleton of the longest word, so CVCVC means consonant, vowel, consonant, vowel, consonant. The longest run of consonants without a vowel between them is the single best predictor on this site of a name people stumble over: three or more in a row is where English readers slow down.

None of this tells you which name is better. It tells you which is longer, which is denser and which is likelier to be misread aloud, and leaves the judgement where it belongs. Nothing here is checked against a trademark, company or handle register.
